One of the many things that makes Americans sick about the Trump administration is its blatant assault on the environment. A federal appeals court in Washington just said not so fast Trump, this Obama-era regulation is here to stay.
The hugely unqualified Scott Pruitt attempted to roll back a requirement for companies to monitor and reduce methane leaks. Methane has a more detrimental effect on the earth’s ozone than carbon dioxide emitted by cars.
The oil and gas industry lobbied the Trump administration to remove the regulation to increase profits at low-producing wells. The three-judge panel wasn’t fooled.
The judges ruled that the EPA’s decision was “unreasonable, arbitrary, and capricious.” Unfortunately, the EPA is working to undo dozens of Obama-era regulations designed to protect the environment. However, this win is a step in the right direction and proves that the court system is a worthy defense against Pruitt’s evil agenda.
Director of climate and clean air program for the Natural Resources Defense Council, David Doniger, stated, “This ruling declares EPA’s action illegal — and slams the brakes on Trump Administration’s brazen efforts to put the interests of corporate polluters ahead of protecting the public and the environment.”
